Why didn’t God destroy the world in the first place?

In the beginning (Genesis 1-3) God warned people that if they disobeyed him they would be subject to his judgement and would suffer death. When they did disobey, God kept his word but was also merciful. They still suffered His judgement and death but he didn’t destroy either people or the world straight away because of His mercy.

But there will come a time when he will destroy the world and all that is in it (2 Peter 3). It is right for God to destroy the world at His time. Now, he shows us mercy and generosity by delaying the destruction and letting us turn from our rebellion.

You can see in the world today that all of us live only for ourselves – ignoring God and not caring about Him and His opinion. But God is patient, not wanting people to be destroyed but instead to actually be in a relationship with Him – and He does that through Jesus. Jesus lived rightly before God and though he didn’t deserve it he took the destruction we deserved. And more than that he defeated it and was raised to live and continues to live and reign as the King over the entire universe. For those who submit to him he’ll give forgiveness and life and they’ll escape the final destruction on judgement day. But everyone else will suffer God’s promised destruction. Will you submit?
